The Hong Kong Arts Institute (HKAI) has awarded its second HK Prize to a local artist for his or her artwork based on Chinese traditional themes. The HK Prize is an initiative in memory of the late Professor Wang Gungwu, who generously donated funds to support the teaching and research activities of the Department of History at HKAI. The winning entry, titled “Painted Jade Amulet”, depicts the contrast between a pearl and a pierced jade amulet, which has both oriental and Western aesthetics.
