The lottery’s organiser has said the increase is necessary to ensure its long-term sustainability. Despite being the youngest player ever to compete in the PGA Championship, Hong Kong’s Chan Siu-ming has earned the biggest prize money of all this week with a hefty US$1.7 million payday for finishing tied for ninth at the tournament in Orlando. In other golfing news, HK champion Dustin Johnson’s struggles continued as he finished in last place at the LIV Golf Hong Kong Trophy. The American earned just HK$1.4 million for his performance, which was almost half of the HK$2.5 million won by the winner.

For those interested in horse racing, the prize money for this year’s Hong Kong season is set to rise by 8 per cent, with increases across all classes of racehorses. In particular, the Triple Trio jackpot will be boosted to allow a single winning unit of HK$10 to claim up to HK$18 million. In addition, the Quartet and First 4 Merged Pools will see an enhancement to a combined total of over HK$2.8 million.
