Singapore Prize Winners Announced For 2024 Porsche Singapore Classic

The 2024 Porsche Singapore Classic is set to host a stellar field as the tour heads to the sunny island for the first time since 2015. Leading the pack will be LIV Golfer Paul Casey who has been an ambassador with the brand since 2020. Casey will be looking to continue his fine form after winning his first DP World Tour title at the US Open last year.

The prize money payout for this tournament will be a massive S$1.7 million and the winner will receive a cash prize of S$50,000. The runner-up will get S$20,000 while the third place finisher will receive S$10,000.

Besides the cash prize, each of the winners will also receive an exclusive trophy. The finalists will have to compete against the other 15 finalists in five categories of creating a waste-free world, cleaning the air, fixing the climate, reviving oceans and protecting and restoring nature. There will be one winner in each category and the winners will be awarded with PS1 million (S$1.7 million) to boost their projects.

Singapore prize was launched in 1992 and is the nation’s top literary award with more than 150 past winners. It is a biennial award that recognizes outstanding published works in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and translation by Singapore citizens or permanent residents. The contest is open to both short stories and novels. Comics and graphic novels and translation are also eligible for consideration as long as they have been published in English.

A record number of entries were received this year with a total of 560 submissions from both Singapore and overseas authors. The shortlisted works were assessed by a panel of judges comprising Qian Zhou (Chair), Martin Beaver, Martin T:son Engstroem and Lee Kyung Sun from Singapore. The award was presented on January 13 at the National Library of Singapore.

In a race that was marked by scorching temperatures and high humidity, defending champion Ashleigh Gentle overcame not only the unforgiving Singapore conditions but also any self doubts to come out on top of an epic T100 battle with Lucy Charles-Barclay and surprise podium finisher Els Visser. Gentle’s victory will give her more motivation to fight back against the odds in upcoming races. She is now targeting a repeat performance at the Tokyo Marathon in February. This will be her first attempt at the full distance since breaking her foot at the 2017 Boston Marathon. Her performance at the Singapore Marathon will help her qualify for the 2023 IAAF World Championships in Doha. She will be hoping to clinch the spot at the Worlds by finishing in the top four.
