2023 HK Prize Winners Announced

The hk prize is an international award that honors scientists whose research has a significant impact on society. It is open to all researchers worldwide and selected through an impartial process without sponsorship or committee influence. Winners receive both monetary prizes and the opportunity to conduct their research in Hong Kong.

In addition to monetary prizes, top ten finalists also receive shopping vouchers and F&B perks at awards ceremonies across the city. Those interested in participating should carefully read the rules and regulations before submitting a submission. Participants should be aware that breaking any rule may disqualify them from the contest.

This year, the award focuses on the genuine spirit of charity, civic awareness and goodwill in Hong Kong. The winning entries will be recognised for their outstanding achievements in overcoming personal challenges, community contribution and acts of self-sacrifice, as well as for innovation for good, cultural preservation, and tenacious entrepreneurship.

The winner of this award will be awarded HK$5000 and have the opportunity to present their ideas to key stakeholders in the development sector. In order to be eligible, applicants should submit a proposal with clear and innovative ideas that contribute to Hong Kong’s future vision. Moreover, the idea should be in line with Hong Kong’s unique strengths and resources. It is also important that the submission is grounded in solid research, aiming at helping people at the lowest cost and greatest benefit, and valuing all people equally.

In the journalism category, senior reporter Xi Tianqi took home two runner-up prizes for her series on the city’s efforts to become a global culture hub, while copy editor James Cook bagged first runner-up in Best News Writing (English) for his innovative piece In the Green Fast Lane that highlighted the city’s push for electric vehicles.

The 2023 hk prize winners were chosen by a panel of judges that included representatives from the government, business and academia. The jury considered the impact of the candidates’ work, the quality of their submissions and the alignment with Hong Kong’s global vision. They also assessed the candidates’ commitment to help people at the lowest cost and with the greatest benefit, and to valuing all people equally. This is one of the most prestigious high school competitions in Asia. It rewards academic excellence, talent and extracurricular participation and is open to students from Southeast Asia, mainland China and internationally. The contest’s application opens on March 1, and the winner will be able to travel to Hong Kong to showcase their project in front of a panel of judges!
